Broadcasting Studio Roles: Technical Director

Overview & Objectives:

In this lesson, we will learn about the role of the Technical director while learning broadcasting studio roles.

 

Materials/Resources:

Materials

  • Adobe Premiere
  • GarageBand - use GarageBand to create your own background music and to use its copyright-free sound effects.
  • Digital Images
  • Headphones

  • This is an individual Assignment, 1 person will recieve credit for work on this assignment.
Vocabulary: add vocabulary words related to the assignment
Directions:

Technical director - The Technical Director will be the person operating the Tricaster.

The Technical Director's Role in the TEC Studio-

The Technical Director(s) will work with the Director to create a news program performed in the TEC Studio.

The following tasks will need to be performed:

  • The Tech Director is an extension of the Directors hands.
  • Switch between standby and take for each clip on the switcher.
  • Audio - You will only use Audio 1 for adjusting the Anchor Mic Levels. Communicate with the Sound Board Operator if one person is not at the same sound level as the other.
  • Name the program file in settings.
  • When director says to "Stand by", you hit the record button.
  • Alternate between Standby and take according to the Directors instructions.
  • Stop recording when program is done.
  • Export footage out of the Tricaster. Give exported program file to Mr. Coursey
  • Shut down Tricaster, Turn off Monitors.

Set up:

  • Turn on Tricaster and Monitors.
  • Grab Script
  • Import and Load all audio, video, and image clips that will be used in the program.
  • Check Sound levels of all video and audio clips to be used in the program. Be sure they are all at the same levels and that the sound does not peak in the red.
  • Check switcher settings.
  • Check Keying settings for each camera and lighting so the virtual studio does not have any bad green screen settings.

Directions for turning work in:

Save as period_lastnamei_asssignmentname.mp4 (1a_smithj_lighthouse.mp4) in your 1-6wks folder and upload a copy to Google Classroom.

If you are turning in a file as a group project save as (2a_lastnamei1-lastnamei2-lastnamei3_assignmentname.mp4)
