Broadcasting Studio Roles: Soundboard Operator

Overview & Objectives:

In this lesson, we will learn about the role of the Sound Board Operator while learning broadcasting studio roles.

 

Materials/Resources:

Materials

  • Adobe Premiere
  • GarageBand - use GarageBand to create your own background music and to use its copyright-free sound effects.
  • Digital Images
  • Headphones

  • This is an individual Assignment, 1 person will recieve credit for work on this assignment.
Vocabulary: add vocabulary words related to the assignment
Directions:

Sound Board Operator -
The sound board operation is responsible for knowing how to use each piece of sound equipment involved in the production.

 

The Sound Board Operator's Role in the TEC Studio-

The Sound Board Operator'(s) will work with the director, camera crew, and Floor Manager to create a news program performed in the TEC Studio.

The following tasks will need to be performed:

  • Perform Sound checks on the sound board. Initiate sound checks with the Floor Manager and anchors.
  • Make adjustments to sound levels as necessary.
  • Mute and unmute each mic channel.
  • Ask Floor Director, Are we ready for Mics?
    • Unmute #1 and ask anchor 1 to say lines. Press Mute, Check Mic 2. Mute two.
  • When director says Stand by, un mute the mics.
  • When show is over, mute the mics.

Set up:

  • Check audio levels and see if there is any static coming from each studio mic.
  • Work with technical director to check sound levels.

Directions for turning work in:

Save as period_lastnamei_asssignmentname.mp4 (1a_smithj_lighthouse.mp4) in your 1-6wks folder and upload a copy to Google Classroom.

If you are turning in a file as a group project save as (2a_lastnamei1-lastnamei2-lastnamei3_assignmentname.mp4)
