Materials/Resources:

Materials

  • Adobe Premiere
  • GarageBand - use GarageBand to create your own background music and to use its copyright-free sound effects.
  • Digital Images
  • Headphones
  • AAVP: Stadium Hype Video Group Signup Form - Use this from to pick a Football team to film for this project. On the 2nd tab, there is a schedule for each MISD football team this season. • This is an individual Assignment. You may work individually to recieve credit.
Vocabulary: Shot List, Peer Review, Pre-Production, Rule of Thirds, Framing,
Directions:

Guidelines:  Students will work in teams to shoot an action event (sporting, music, etc.)

  • The video must include 8-15 different shots. IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU SHOOT AT A MINIMUM OF ONE FOOTBALL GAME.
  • A shot list must be submitted. Create a shot list identifying the shots that will best showcase that event. They should also identify the goals of the video in their shot list. Consider the types of shots you learned about in Project 1 and how you might apply them in this project. A shot list is a pre-production tool and you may take additional, unplanned shots as the situation unfolds. Document any new shots on your shot list.  Worksheet: Shot list
  • The video should be 1 minute in length. Adobe Premiere Pro guide: How to capture video
  • The video must incorporate natural sound clips from the event.
  • Proper techniques for shooting video must be used. Operating the camera. Supporting the camera (tripods, shoulder, hands, and so on) Changing lens angles to capture shots. Composing video (rule of thirds, framing, and so on). Providing lighting. Using natural sound. Guides: Introduction to digital video, Video shooting tips
  • Edit video in Adobe Premiere Pro. Use transitions when necessary. Have an opening title (name of video, location, date) and end credits (Site Mr. Coursey as Executive Producer, Student Producer-Your Name, Filming credit, Editing credit, MSEB Productions, copyright/date, etc.). Background music may be used (school appropriate). This video is intended to be placed on the MSEB Youtube channel, possibly played on the stadium scoreboard, and Facebook page. Adobe Premiere Pro guideHow to use editing tools in the Source Monitor, How to apply and adjust video transitions
  • Export video as a H264 format  (.MP4) with Youtube HD 1080p 29.9fps Preset. Name file as 2a_lastnamei_highlight in your 1-6wks folder and turn in along with your finished shot list and upload a copy to Google Classroom. Adobe Premiere Pro guide – How to create standard image, movie and audio files

Presentation: Students are to present their final videos to other members of the class, explaining the techniques they used to engage their audience and meet their goals. After each student has presented, solicit peer review so students can offer one another a constructive critique of their videos.

Guide: Peer review

Because students might have taken different approaches to the same video, discuss how the approaches and outcomes vary even though they used the same footage. Discuss the ethical responsibility of editing video in this project and for all future projects. Some things to discuss include:

  • How the editing process can manipulate video.
  • The power an editor has of representing the same information in different ways.
  • The responsibility an editor has to accurately and honestly represent a situation, story, or person (both visual and audio).
  • The need to be aware of bias when editing video and to notice it in others' videos.
