On-Demand Video Assignment

Overview.

Participants write, shoot, and edit a sixty (60) second video during class within a one week time period. ( 3 class periods) Required criteria, such as props and a line of dialogue, make the competition more challenging a will be revealed by the teacher on the first day of the assignment. 

This project is meant to prepared students for TSA competition and provide experience with creating video projects in a short amount of time.

Purpose

Participants have the opportunity to use video skills, tools, and processes to communicate, entertain, inform, analyze, or illustrate a topic, idea, subject or concept. An extremely powerful and ubiquitous medium, video production has great potential, strengths and limitation that should be understood by all.

  • This is a Group Assignment. You may work individually, or in groups of 4 to recieve credit.

  • Entries must be filmed during school hours. Editing can be done after hours and from home.
  • The video must be no longer than sixty seconds in length.
  • Particiants have 3 class periods to complete the entire production.
  • Must only use one video camera.
  • Must use non copyrighted materials


Regulations

  • Videos must be submitted as a digital MP4 file.
  • Teams must include 2 or more members.
  • Teams may use no more than one video camera for the video production.
  • All video footage must be original work of the team and must have been completed during the event timeline.
  • Where applicable, all ideas, test images and sound from other sources must be cited. Copyrighted materials may NOT be used. NOTE: Failure to follow this procedure results in disqualification.
  • The video and an 8 1/5 x 11" notebook are turned in to the teacher by the end of the third class period. The notebook is presented and organized in a professional manner. Each of the sections is double-spaced and no smaller than 11 point type. The notebook is a standard (3)-ring binder, with a clear front sleeve for a cover page. The cover page must include the event title, the school city and state, and the year. The inside of the binder must include the following single-sided. 8 1/2" X 11" pages:
    • 1. Title page with the event title, the school city and state, and the year; 1 page
    • 2. Table of contents
    • 3. Purpose and description of video; 1 page
    • 4. A shot log used in production planning to aid with shot selection and shot type for each scene; 1 page
    • 5. Two column script detailing specific audio and video cues that must correlate with the video; pages as needed.
    • 6. List of video equipment and software used in the development of the video; 1 page
    • 7. List of references that includes sources for materials; pages as needed.

Directions for turning work in:

Team leaders will turn in the videos. Save as period_lastnamei_asssignmentname.mp4 (1A_Team#01_On-Demand.mp4) in your 4-6wks folder and upload a copy to Google Classroom. Turn in a digital copy of your documentation saved as 1A_Team#1_OD-documentation.docx with your video.
