Music Video Assignment

 
Overview & Objectives:
Objective: In teams of 1 to 3 students, Choose a (School Appropriate) song and create a music video providing a visual to the lyrics of the song. You can have actors lip-sync, sing, or just act out the lyrics.
Materials/Resources:

Materials

  • Adobe Premiere
  • GarageBand - use GarageBand to create your own background music and to use its copyright-free sound effects.
  • Digital Images
  • Headphones

  • This is a Group Assignment. You may work individually, or in groups of 2 to recieve credit.
Vocabulary: non-verbal communication, captions, dialogue
Directions:

Requirements:

  • Video time must be full length of the song you choose. (ask teacher for exceptions)
  • No dialogue except maybe one sentence. Can use a limited amount of captions instead(like silent films).
  • May use music to set the mood and sound effects to tell the story. 
  • Use camera angles and appropriate acting to tell the story.
  • Use non-verbal communication
  • Create a storyboard and script to be included in the CYOP Documenation.

Music is a powerful dramatic tool capable of greatly enhancing emotional response. You are to create a music video that visually tells the story in a song, or has an actor lip sync the lyrics, or an actor actually singing.

PLAN OF ACTION:

To receive full credit for this assignment, complete all of the following:

  1. Read all directions for this assignment, look at the Assignment Rubric, and view examples of Music Videos.
  2. Complete the CYOP Assignment Concept Pitch Form to pitch your idea and let your instructor know who is teaming up. The Person that is #1 on the form is the Team Leader.
  3. PART 1: Complete the Lyric Sheet and submit it on Google Classroom for Mr. Coursey to approve the song.
  4. PART 2: Complete the Music Video Planning Sheet and submit it on Google Classroom for Mr. Coursey to approve before filming. Remember that this sheet needs to have a good amount of detail so that no matter who would pick this paper up, they should be able to reproduce something similar to what you had intended for your final product!  DETAILS ---DETAILS---VISUALLY SPECIFIC!! 
  5. Download the CYOP Documenation. Creat a Rough Draft before filming.
  6. Plan equipment and schedule times needed for filming and recording. Record all needed footage.
  7. Write your final draft Shot Log that includes an intro/story/conclusion, and edit video.
  8. Render completed video and name it as 2a_group#_CYOP-Music.mp4.
  9. Each groups Team Leader will submit the rendered video and Final CYOP Documenation.

Directions for turning work in:

Save as period_lastnamei_asssignmentname.mp4 (1a_group#_CYOP-Music.mp4) in your 5-6wks folder and upload a copy to Google Classroom.

Print a copy of the completed CYOP Documenation and turn it in to Mr. Coursey.
