GarageBand Assignment # 2
Mixing Loops

 
Overview & Objectives:

Description: In this Assignment, you will watch the GarageBand tutorial videos below and create your own music mix using 3 or more different loop tracks plus 1 or more tracks using a software instrument with music created by you from the keyboard.

View the tutorial videos below to show you how to best complete this assignment.

  1. Open GarageBand 10, choose Loops
  2. Save file as 3A_lastnamei_gbloop1 in your 1st6wks folder, click create.
  3. In the Loops Panel, choose several instruments and choose loops the sound good together.
  4. Preview the loops, when you find one you like, drag it into the tracks timeline.
  5. Arrange the loops to create the sound you want. You can can copy and paste a loop if you want it to repeat.
  6. Record a multi-beat loop using the onscreen keyboard. Use 3 or more different tracks.
  7. Click the New track button, or choose Track > New Track and pick an instrument. Click the create button.
  8. In the software Instrument Panel, you can choose and add different instruments that you can play on the keyboard yourself.
    To view the Keyboard, Choose Window > Keyboard
  9. Find the instrument that you like and record a loop using the Keyboard. Try to record something that goes with the loops you have already added.
  10. Drag another loop from the Loop Browser to the Track section. Combine the multiple loops into a usable melody. Must be 20 or more seconds long.
  11. Save as 3a_smithj_gbloop1.band. Export your song as a MP3. (see below)
  12. Upload & Turn the GarageBand MP3 into the Google Classroom. You also need to turn in the Screen shot of your GB timeline showing all tracks used as well. (Shift+Command+4)

Tips: To save a file in Garageband as a MP3:

  • Choose Share, Export Song to Disk
  • Compress Using MP3 Encoder
  • Click Export

Save as period_lastnamei_asssignmentname.psd (3a_smithj_gbloop1.band)

Extra Tips:

Key grading points:
When grading this assignment, I will be looking for the following.

  • File is saved correctly. (ClassPeriod_lastnamefirstinitial_gbloop.band) 1A_courseyd_gbloop1.band
  • 3 or more different tracks are created, with 2 or more different GaragBand Loops added.
  • 1 or more tracks will be created by you with the keyboard using a software instrument.
  • Must have multiple tracks going at the same time at some point in the song.
  • The beat you create with the tracks is 20 seconds or more.
  • The more creative and better sounding beats will get the better grades. "Do your best"
  • Did you name the files correctly and turn in a screen shot of your timeline showing all tracks.
